Friday June 1, 2012

Hello All,

WOW! Today was pretty cool.... We went to a car show at Graceland..... Ok, not too many people get to do that!
We left Nashville yesterday but before we did we went to the Lane Auto Museum..It had all these weird cars that you don't normally see, like the French 2CV, three wheelers, all kinds of odd cars. But the thing that hit me is that there was a 1971 Fiat Spyder in there? What? I got a '78 in my garage! That is not a WEIRD car!!

About today.... Such a cool day! I am not, nor have I ever been an Elvis fan, kinda before my time, and when I did hear about him, it was near the end of his life when, well, things weren't looking too good. Today I gained a new respect for Mr. Presley, he was an amazing humanitarian and an unsurpassed musician. His awards outnumber anyone else and the things he did quietly for charity were so generous. There is a wall of about 75 cancelled checks all made out to people and charities, each check for $1,00.00
all made out on the same day. Nov. 8... Ok that was just one day, maybe he did that once a month? Once a week? Who knows, but that is pretty generous...
The house is very modest, very 50's/60's.. Nothing super spectacular, the jungle room funishings are something to see, but basically a very modest home for a man of his wealth.
At the end of the day we got to drive up the driveway of Graceland and a photographer took a pic of the car in front of the front door...  While we were lined up in front of Gracland there is a stone wall where visitors have written a message to Elvis or put their names, I wrote on the wall as well......As I drove up the drive I said to Gar, "This is what it would be like if Elvis invited us to dinner!" A fun way to end the day...

Tomorrow the car show continues, they give out awards and then we will explore Memphis!

See ya on the Road,
Ter :)

'From the driver's seat'.....a couple of most interesting days....Yesterday morning we visited the Lane Automobile Museum, a collection of the most eclectic cars you'll find anywhere. They specialize in micro cars and orphans...Crosleys, Skodas, Citroens and a number of one-offs...even a double ended 2CV!!! We then drove from Nashville to Memphis, an uneventful drive until we got to Memphis when the sky turned black and while we sat in a Starbucks parking lot stealing their wifi the rain poured down and then turned to hail! I hightailed it to another lot where we hid under a tree to minimize our exposure but the hail never got more than about pea sized. While in Nashville we saw a fairly new Chrysler 300 that looked like the hood, roof and trunk lid had been worked over by a ball peen hammer...not pretty. I was glad to have escaped with just wet carpets!
This morning we headed out to Graceland for a car show....how cool is that? There weren't many cars there today but it is Friday...hopefully there will be more tomorrow! It took a couple hours to clean 7600 miles of road grime off, but the old girl looked pretty good. We met several of the other exibitors and they made us feel very much at home. The highlight of the day was all of the people who looked at the map of our trip and then would exclaim "You didn't do this trip in THAT car!" Yep, we did..... We took a tour of Elvis' home, very homey and not really very showy for someone as successful as he was. Later in the day we got to drive up Elvis' driveway for a photo to be taken in front of his mansion!!!!!
We'll be returning to the car show tomorrow, maybe we'll win something!!!! Long distance?? Best woodie?(the only one)

A FIAT?  Really? Really??????

Thank You, Thank You Very Much!!
