Hello All,
Today was fun, we were up and out of the hotel by 9 to make our walking tour of Boston at 10:00. Our hotel was only 11 miles from downtown Boston, but it took until 9:50 to get to the Samuel Adams statue for our walking tour. I don't want to say we looked like the typical tourists, but the Car Whisperer was walking around with his GPS! I walked way ahead of him pretending that I was a local! :) We found the statue and met our guide Mike who was a typical Bostonian. He was abrupt but informative and made fun of all of us equally, ok maybe the 5 Australians were made fun of a bit more...
We walked the "Freedom Trail" for about 2 hours learning all about the history of our nation at it's beginnings. The Boston Massacre, the Boston Tea Party, Paul Revere, Ben Franklin and much, much more. We had lunch in a building that was built in 1826... Hello! 1826 ! That was a long time ago! I will put in some pics of that building. After a bit of shopping at "All Things Boston" we headed to the John F Kennedy Library and museum. It is a beautiful building out on a point of land overlooking the bay. It had all the hi-lights of his presidency, the Cuban missile crisis, the start of the peace corpes, the beginning of the space program. They had video playing at each exhibit of his speeches, tons of pictures of his family and many gifts from foreign heads of state, like jewelery for Jackie and an amazing gold, sapphire, diamond and ruby purse from the shaw of Iran. It had some of Jackie's clothes and gifts that her husband had given her. I really enjoyed this museum as I was too young to have known all of this stuff when it actually happened. It seemed like a time in history when anything was possible and the country expected you to do your part to keep America in the for front.
The freeway was packed with rush hour traffic so we took side streets back to the hotel a bit longer, but I know Gary could never have sat in that traffic...Patience is not his middle name if you get what I mean.... :)
Tomorrow we are off to Connecticut to meet Gary's aunt for lunch if she is available and then spend a few days in NYC.
See ya on the Road,
Ter :)
'From the driver's seat'.....a somewhat relaxed day, minimal driving with the absolutely rudest and most aggressive drivers in the world, just to and from Boston for a downtown walking tour and a drive to the JFK Library and Museum, both very much worth the time. There are many buildings in downtown Boston from the Revolutionary War, many 'it happened right here' locations....makes me wish I had done better in History in school. Did a lot of shopping for 'Boston' stuff in an 1826 warehouse....one of the newer old buildings. Boston's much smaller than I realized.....
Heading south a bit tomorrow, going to visit some friends then a day in NYC.....better take my 'patience' pills.
Nice Pictures,
