Wednesday May 9, 2012

Hello All,
I just couldn't write last night because it would have had so very many "bad" words in it! Oh yesterday was a trying day for Gar and I, but we made it. The car was raining inside, I think it was wetter in the car than outside and that is going some as it was pouring.... But I want to say that the "Car Whisper" drove us safely to Bangor and it was very stressful with the pounding rain and giant trucks. There was a sign that said "Watch for Moose on the Road". Gary said to me, "Let me know if you see any wildlife at all as I can't watch the sides of the road and the road". Now we are both stressed out, but I gotta tell you when he said that to me I was like.... What the "heck"(insert any bad word there!) It's dark, raining like crazy, tiny windshield wipers doing their best, windows are steamed up and I have to keep wiping them with my shirt sleeve to try and see any traffic, water is dripping from the ceiling, side window and many places under the dash board and he wants me to look for wildlife that there is no way in "heck"(you know what to do here) I will ever be able to see!  Luckily I just said, "OK"...... Even though I forgot our anniversary, I have been married for 29 years, I know when to keep quiet!  :)
We made it to the hotel and had a good, dry, warm nights sleep.
Today we took it easy, slept in, and then took a turn around Bangor..The hilight here is the giant Paul Bunyon, so I get the address of the park it is in and we drive over there.Of course it is across the street from the Hollywood Casino and it is fenced in and they are building an events center so you can't go near it... Dang! But if you go in to the Casino parking garage you can get a pic, so we had to go!  Since we were already there we might as well stop in and do just a bit of gambling, I mean why not? Didn't win, lost ten, but Gary won 15 so we were up 5 bucks! Yea us, thanks Paul Bunyon!
We went out to the airport (our main reason for coming to Bangor) to see where the troops come in from Iraq. We were hoping a plane would come in so we could greet the troops, but no luck. We have a contact there who said he would call us tonight if one comes in so we could help greet them when they get off the plane. They can come at any time day or night so it would be super fun to do it. Just seeing the area where they come in is very moving so I'm not sure how I would react if they were actually there. They have walls full of pictures and stickers of their troops. The greeters have cell phones for the soliders to call home, coffee, donuts and just welcome them. They aren't paid, they do it all on thier own just to show them that someone thanks them for thier service. I think that is wonderful and it would have been cool to greet them...
We did laundry and relaxed the rest of the day which was nice, still rainy but hoping that tomorrow will be better. We are off to Wells Maine to eat at the Maine Diner featured on Diners Drive Ins and Dives. They have Lobster Mac & Cheese! I'll let you know tomorrow how the food was, even though I can only eat a little bit, I'm not going to miss out!
See ya on the road,
Ter  :)
