Hello All,
Today is May 1st, a very eventful day in my life as that is the day I first became a mother. It is hard to believe that was 27 years ago, but it is true... As my niece has just had her little boy and we have been talking about what a miracle it is, it reminded me of my first day as a Mom. I came out of the annestia and had the most adorable little bundle put into my arms. I looked down at that face and instantly fell in love with that little guy! Amazing! I spent hours and hours just staring at him, his little hands, little nose, big blue eyes... OMG! It was overwhelming and fantastic at the same time. Four years later I was blessed to go thru it again, and when I looked into the face of my second beautiful son Ian, the same thing happened, I was in love! I didn't have the luxury of starring at him for hours and hours as I had a 4 year old to keep busy but I got my staring in after Mikey went to bed!
Having children is an amazing adventure and I'm so happy that I got to experience it twice!
So Happy Birthday Mikey J! You are and were an amazing kid!
Ok I know that has nothing to do with my trip but I'm feeling very "Mom like" today....
We started out the day with a very nice breakfast at the Cracker Barrel in Lincoln(Sista I had a yogurt and a mixed berry muffin) with our friends John and Martha Lee. They are so great and although we haven't seen them since our trip in '09 it felt like we just saw them yesterday! Picked right back up where we left off. Great time with Great people! Then we hopped in the car and drove for another 350 miles until we got to Davenport Iowa. We were pounded with wind the whole time and everyone who knows me knows I HATE wind...I told Gary we needed to hurry up as I flet like stabbing someone and he was the only other person in the car! Our friend Martha said the women of the prarie sometimes committed suicide because of the wind...... I can understand it! Ok enough uplifting talk! HA!
We are at a nice hotel and we splurged on my favorite mid western chain restaurant Steak & Shake. They have the most delicious little burgers, thin patties and slider size which is just right for Gar and I! I love them but Gary tells me they are no White Castle!
We are here for the night then on to Detroit tomorrow for a couple of days for Gary to catch up with his old buddies from school and the neighborhood. It will be fun to finally meet some of these guys that I have been hearing about for the last 29 years! Starting to miss everyone as we are over 2,000 miles from home!
See ya on the road,
Ter :)
"From the driver's seat".....another good, trouble free drive....two in a row! High point of the day was buying gas for three dollars and..........wait for it.........thirty seven cents!!!!!!!! Wish I had a couple big gas cans to fill up along with the tank. Traffic has been light and drivers friendly as we drive our way to the east coast. The worst part has been a CONSTANT northerly wind that continues to push the car into the median for hundreds of miles.
As Terry said, after an early start we met John and Martha for some catching up and a couple hours of laughing and chatting. We'll be seeing them again later in the year as John receives a well deserved 'major award' ( not a leg lamp!) in California.
One more long leg (430 miles) to Detroit and then the rest of the trip will be short 100-200 miles drives. Looking forward to seeing some friends I haven't seen in 30 years....I'm sure we'll all look the same!
