Today we drove thru Iowa, Illinois and Indiana to get to Michigan! We are here for a few days for Gary to reconnect with some old friends.... We are staying in Farmington Hills outside of Detroit. I told Gary I didn't need to see Detroit, really I don't...I watch too many crime shows and worked in law enforcement (albeit in the office, I still heard things!)and seriously don't want to see Detroit! :)
We started our drive today in the pouring rain, but as we made our way to Chicago it cleared up and only rained lightly. It was really raining in the morning and after we got our Starbucks, one "Tall" Caramel Macch and one "Small"(my man refuses to bow to Starbuck's names for small, med. & lg.) hot chocolate we hit the freeway. It was raining so hard that when we passed a semi we couldn't see anything but a bit of the yellow line on the side of the road.... I mean nothing.. Just rain and water, our tiny baby windshield wipers doing the best they could to keep up with the deluge.
Here's the thing though, I look over at the Car Whisperer and he is drinking his drink with one hand, steering with the other and not phased by this at all. I have now clenched my cup into a diamond shape and I'm white knuckling it, praying that we live to make it to the next rest stop because I am so scared that now I have to go to the bathroom!
Of course I don't say any of this as my comments would be met with "Oh honey, it's fine"..... Men, ya gotta love them! :)
We met up with Gary's friend Tom Dreffs and his wife Donna for dinner and had fun reminiscing about when those guys were young, and catching up on every one's family... Tomorrow we are headed to the Big Boy in Walled Lake to meet up with Tom & Sherry Ferguson, Mike Hill, Mike Wilkinson and Tom & Donna Drefts for lunch, which I'm sure will turn into a very long one.... It will be fun for me to finally meet some of these guys I have heard stories about for the last 29 years.....
Hey People! If you read this blog throw us a comment every now and then, I feel like I'm writing to myself. Although I do find myself awfully funny, it would be great to hear from you guys too, a quick hello and how's it going with you would be great!
See ya on the road............Ter :)
'From the driver's seat'......In Monday's blog I asked "Is there anything left to fail?" Why, yes there is apparently! Today the water pump decided to take leave and started leaking so tomorrow I'll spend the morning replacing that prior to heading to the aforementioned lunch. I have to say that even though I've had problems this trip at least the car has them when and where they're easy to fix!
Over the last year I have reconnected with high school friends, people I used to cruise Woodward Avenue with and one thing is very clear....people don't change....good or bad, they remain the same. I noticed that the friends I recently re-met were the same great friends they were all those many years ago. I haven't seen the two Mikes I'll get together with tomorrow for 30+ years and I am fully confident they'll be the same people....which is great! I had a childhood friend that I did EVERYTHING with....then for some reason we no longer hung out together....I could never remember why...there was no fight....nothing. As soon as he sat down and started talking the conversation was all about him....oh, yeah, I remember now!!!! That's why I couldn't stand him anymore.
I won't ask THAT question again.....
Terry pretty much covered the trip...
I am reading and enjoying every minute of it...

I too am reading and enjoying it! Congratulations Terry on your retirement and savor your time on the road! Reading your blog is making me hungry (Steak and Shake is one of my favorites too. If you get a chance, try a Waffle House and let me know what you think).
